Oh my dog...
It has been SO HOT here in Wagga Wagga. We have had a WHOLE WEEK of temperatures over 40 Celsius! Which is over 104 Fahrenheit.
I have been melting. Even Floyd has had trouble coping, and usually the heat doesn't worry him.
There have been horribly bushfires down south from here for the last few days, in Victoria and South Australia. Many people have lost their homes, and one poor lady died.
Last night in and around Wagga we had what is called a "dry" storm, which is thunder and lightning without and rain. Which is the ABSOLUTE last thing you want after all the dry weather and high temperatures. The lightning has started 2 major fires near Wagga. While we are not in any danger, the villages of Humula, Carabost and Kyeamba are under threat, and many people are evacuating. These are tiny little farming communities. There have been some (unconfirmed) reports of 5 homes being lost near Carabost.
On this note, we would like to say how proud we are of the brave men and women of the Rural Fire Service (New South Wales), the Country Fire Authority (Victoria) and the Country Fire Service (South Australia). They risk life and limb to save and protect the people of their states and many of them are unpaid volunteers.
We don't know how they cope in the heat and the smoke... So brave.
Speaking of the heat... Floyd and I have been very lazy this week, we've spent nearly all of our time sleeping on the lounge under the cooler and in front of the fan.
We've been doing a lot of...
And...
And...
And...
Just trying to stay cool!!

We would like to thank everypawdy who has submitted entries for our Barkday Competition!
Floyd and I have been in stitches after seeing some of the mischief some of you have been up to! We've also been in awe of how clever some of you are after seeing what tricks you can do!
If you haven't sent your pics in, there is still HEAPS of time! You have until midnight, Australian Eastern Daylight Time on Australia Day (26th of January) to send them in... So, keep 'em coming!!
-----
We also have some totally pawsome news! Out mate Ranger the Scottie is coming to visit us!!! He will be here a few days before Australia Day, so we can show him around, and then we're gonna through an Australia Day feast for him! We are so excited! We might even spend some time teaching him (and you guys) some Aussie slang!
In the meantime, our peeps are going out of town. They're headed to the beach (the lucky so-and-sos) so, I will be without my typist for a few days, until Ranger comes to stay. I hope you all stay safe and well until we are back.
Waggles and lickies,
Dougall
